There are some situations wherein staying put simply isn’t an option. The authorities may call for an evacuation due to an oncoming flood or a disaster that could endanger many lives. Most preppers would bug out in these situations. Even if you have a bug-out location and vehicle ready, there are still a few things you can add to your preps to significantly increase your chances of survival. (h/t to DoomsdayMoose.com)
Bugging out and surviving on the road can be a stressful affair, but with preparation, you can make things easier for yourself and your loved ones. Here are some basic things that can help you survive while you’re on the road.
At the minimum, you should have a dedicated bug-out bag inside your vehicle at all times. But, unlike a standard bug-out bag, your vehicle allows you to bring more supplies. Here are a few things you should consider adding to your bag:
In addition to your usual bug-out bag, you should also include items specifically for roadside emergencies and vehicle breakdowns. Things like a floor jack, jumper cables, tire pumps and even a fire extinguisher can all help you when your vehicle is in a pinch.
The weather may make it difficult to travel to your bug-out location. In case you find your vehicle slipping in rain or snow, having a set of off-road tires can be a big help in keeping your car on the road and avoid potential accidents. (Related: How to bug out in your car.)
Cleanliness and sanitation are a big part of prepping for disasters, including bugging out in a car. Having a few all-weather mats in your vehicle can keep your interiors clean no matter the situation. Even the muddiest of ventures are no match for these mats.
You can forget about reading printed maps or checking your phone while driving when you have a built-in GPS in your car. While it may be quite expensive to install, the extra bucks you’ll spend may be worth avoiding the hassle of getting lost. Having one with voice commands enabled can even reduce the number of distractions that could cause you to get into an accident.
By keeping these four essentials in your vehicle, your trip toward your bug-out location may become a walk in the park. Find out more about the essential tools needed for survival at SurvivalGear.news.
