A community of preppers could be better than the traditional lone wolf prepper. With more supplies, a better communication network, and more manpower, a strong community can better survive in a post SHTF world. Here are 15 things that the community of preppers should do after SHTF:
- Ensure that local infrastructure is safe. Infrastructure is the hiding place and evacuation centers. People within the community must join hand in hand to check buildings and houses after a disaster.
- Form local markets. Looting and robberies are common sights after SHTF due to a lack of supplies. But with a community of preppers, supplies can be shared, and a local market can be formed to give access to those who are lacking in some necessities.
- Reestablish rule of law. Hungry stomachs revere no law. This is why communities that have prepared enough for disasters should ensure that law is being implemented in the area to restore a sense of safety, security and peace after SHTF.
- Plan ahead. Planning is a fundamental part of prepping. As a part of a prepping community, each member should provide not just supplies but ideas on how the emergency response should go.
- Institute the U.S. and state constitutions. This will ensure that every member follows state and national laws to avoid criminal offenses, which can dampen the situation.
- Hold elections to elect leaders. Leaders who will spearhead rehabilitation and law implementation should be selected to restore order and help people with crucial decisions. It is important to look closely at the characters of persons to be elected and establish qualifications for each position.
- Hold town and area meetings. This should be done by the elected leaders to communicate with their members. Communication such as sharing of news will help keep the members updated. In addition, internal policies enacted by the prepping community leaders should be disseminated across the area.
- Establish a volunteer militia. Every prepper should have military skills to defend themselves from looters after SHTF, whether an individual or a group. In a community setup, a larger volunteer group should be established to protect the citizens.
- Re-establish local, county and state written laws. This is to ensure that the citizens will be restrained from doing any unlawful act. Not everyone in the community will have the discipline to stay calm and composed after SHTF. But implementing laws can put everyone in check.
- Determine how the children will study. One of the establishments that can be severely affected by disasters is the schools. The prepping community needs to have places where students can resume their studies. In addition, this is where having teachers in the prepping group come into play.
- Establish a local clinic or doctor’s office. Having doctors and medical practitioners in a prepping group is necessary. This is because injuries and wounds are common when SHTF. For communities, having a local clinic can help organize medical and emergency responses.
- Establish regular town and county meetings. Regular meetings will organize the community and increase the efficiency of every leader’s actions. Communication to every member can be done by face-to-face interactions or through the use of ham radio.
- Consider re-establishment of public library and newspaper. Having a community newspaper featuring national and local news can help keep the public informed, especially if electricity lines are down and there’s no connection to television networks or the internet. Meanwhile, having a public library can help give the public a beneficial pastime to entertain themselves amid the situation.
- Don’t wait for the collapse. This means that the community must be reliant and can stand on its own. However, to achieve a self-reliant community, the character must be practiced by every member first. They must be able to be part of the solution and not the problem. Every member must strive not to depend on the resources of the whole community.
- Make plans for the future. Planning for disasters not only happens before but also after they happened. After SHTF, the leaders and every member should unite to rebuild their area after the calamity.
